Description

Hidden in the brush strokes are some fun things like a tulip, a reindeer, a swan and a few rather strange creatures! That’s the fun of pareidolia… seeing recognizable images in random shapes and patterns.

As Ralphie and Kennie painted, I started photographing some of the images that appeared along the way before another brush stroke made them disappear. Look closely at the finished painting and see what you can find. You may see something completely different than I do!

Ralphie and Kennie created this painting together, taking turns adding their own brush strokes and colors. This is the only painting they created together so far this year.

Painting Size: 14″ x 11″ x 3/4″

Paint Colors: A soft pink base layered with purple, blue, pink, and silver splatters.

Materials Used:A stretched canvas covered with a Touch of Pink. Scattered brush strokes of White were applied by Ralphie and a colorful palette of brush strokes in acrylic of Pansy Purple, Caribbean Blue, Hydrangea Pink, a smidge of Pearlescent Violet along with spatters of Iridescent Silver by Kennie and Bleu Lagoon by Ralphie.

About the Artist

Expect the unexpected! Ralphie and Kennie are two deaf Old English Sheepdogs who have never let sensory loss define what they can do. They paint by holding brushes in their mouths, and just like everything else they do, the results are sometimes surprising!

They have earned numerous trick-dog titles over the years, learned through hand signals, participated in creative projects and shown again and again that being deaf doesn't mean being limited. Ralphie and Kennie approach life the same way they approach a blank canvas… with plenty of enthusiasm for doing it their own way.

They are not limited by sensory loss. They're simply dogs who experience the world a little differently.
